Knowing God - Significance
Sooner or later, many of us experience the need to know our life counts, that we are making a difference. For those who feel this need, it usually happens within the context of questioning the purpose or meaning of life.
Knowing God - Destiny
To the extent that I thought at all about life after death prior to my encounter with Jesus, I considered it totally outside my control. Thus, my need to know where I was going was largely satisfied by setting future goals and implementing strategies to achieve them.
Knowing God - Transformation
Business became my vehicle for self actualization. I wanted to get to the top yesterday! It seems the drive to excel is inextricably intertwined with hard work and sacrifice. And my toughest taskmaster was me!

One of the biggest questions addressed by philosophers for millennia is “Why am I here?” (synonymous with the question of my life’s purpose). At one time, I spent no time thinking about questions of this nature. I didn’t see the relevance and, in any case, was too busy pursuing success. Can you relate?

The need to be valued has played a significant role in my life, being closely intertwined with my identity. During the years prior to my encounter with Jesus, my identity was bound up in how well I performed.

It can be argued that humanity naturally defaults to viewing life through a performance prism. Consistent with this “default setting,” world religions are generally based upon the premise we can appease God’s displeasure with our unrighteous conduct (aka “sin”) through good deeds.
